I think a sensible place to start is why now? You've been thinking about a US listing for some time, but why put SKH Highix in front of US investors now? >> Well, we've been waiting for that for a long long time and since I acquired that Heinix about 15 years ago. So, this is one of the our milestones. Well, we have to go to access to the uh US capital market. So now dream comes true. So people asking why now? But well this is kind kind of earliest moment. Well we can we can have >> the earliest moment possible. >> 26.5 billion is a lot of money but in the context of SK's commitment in domestically in Korea >> and internationally not so big. Can we expect multiple returns to ADRs? The sale of multiple rounds of ADRs? >> Well, yes, I'm expect uh we can we can deliver uh those things too. So, uh we try to expand that our ADL size and also better that actually requires a better return. So, once we better return then more there is a more demand. So, so first thing is that well we have to keep the uh stock price stable and uh well hopefully in in a long run that well we can have that upside potentials uh and I see that well this moment so and this is AI era so uh this AI era is actually spiked that a lot of demand for the memory so this is kind of time uh for us >> is this something near-term did you with the leadership group and your CFO say we will need to do this with regularity or you haven't discussed that yet. Well, to tell you the truth, yeah, we've been discussing that one, but uh I cannot just saying that uh in a detail yet. So, >> I appreciate that. Jamman Jay, look, the US listing gives SK a new source of equity capital. >> Mhm. >> But what about the broader US capital markets? Do we see SK Group, SKH Highix as well become an issuer of global bonds, global debt? Well, that's a possible but I guess right now the well we have enough cash for that uh the SK highix some other company could actually issuing that another the bond and well >> yeah access that the capital market >> chairman ch bear with me I'm going to get this out for our audience around the world >> this is why we're all here right [clears throat] this >> you can't even see it tiny HBM4E high bandwidth memory 12 layers in this case >> right >> the whole world knows about this how severe and how tight is the supply right now of HBM and more more importantly how long is that going to last >> do you have a sort of a year where you see the supply situation changing >> well if you really understand uh the the old requirement and condition for the that HBM memory type and you have to understand that the AI side first. So people know set the large language model. >> Yes. >> Yes. But uh that large language model as a very important things but uh I guess in the future so uh the more we using that AI and the AI actually requires more uh >> the inference phase. >> Yes. But uh I see that memory The mean is a KB caching. So well it generated the uh lot of uh KB caching the due to that uh keeping that the performance of the uh LLM then uh you should have that the large some volume of the KB caching and you have to actually this is kind of a memory in the people that uh as the same thing we store that the memory you know our brain and yeah AI need that well those kind of uh KB caching that memory has to store was somewhere. So if you had at the well better size of the memory then it has a better performance. as a as simple as that and that memory uh cycle is a well it's turning to well it's a it's a different different cycle I shouldn't say that the cycle is different momentum so uh and know back then uh the old days the memory chip is uh memory chip demand is actually depends on uh the number of people number of the hardware set >> that was a consumer electronics story in part >> yes >> boom and fast. >> Yeah. Yeah. Well mostly well you add that to your own smartphone but you don't need that tens of different uh type of uh the smartphone you only using that just one like a PC >> right >> so the demand is actually the uh limited by that number of the people but in AI era it's a different you may use that your own uh AI agent you know uh probably in a few years from uh from now then uh you may had that depends over the hundreds difference of your own agent. So that every agent needed a lot of memories because at the well they created a lot of KV caching. So you have to actually store somewhere that actually uh needs at the huge amount of the memory. Well that's the that's the AI uh the era. So I guess that memory business is turn into that uh well it's a different stage. You still called it a cycle though. That's the demand side. A reason to do the ADRs is to raise capital in part to boost capacity. Uh your industry peers Micron had said very recently they have line of sight to supply improving 2028 the other side of 2027 in part because of the capacity that is coming online. What does SKH Highix see? Well, we didn't talk to that our customers. So where we just announced that uh uh yeah few months ago. So we're going to double up the our capacity. >> Yes. >> Within a five years. So uh that means that what we've been doing that the business more than 25 years. Uh and then well with next five years we're going to double up the our whole capacity. is well people see that that's unrealistic and probably the over supply and people worry about but my customer said that that's not enough we need that more so I double up is not uh it's not enough actually what they want us that the uh yeah five times six times so uh the more is the better because that well uh demand will be exponentially uh grow in the future >> based on that customer demand. What do they see then? If they are the the the crystal ball, the lens to the future, >> they believe that their level of demand will stay where it is 2029, 2030, how long does supply tightness respond to that? uh well nobody expected uh I don't know what in what what's going to happen in next years but I'm saying that uh well I have some confident and what the demand will be grow and uh uh our supply capacity never going to catch up so uh I don't know how long but uh well if I think uh it's going to be until that uh pe our society human society has set the some settlement with the AGI then well I I guess that well that's a kind of normalize at the old uh the cycles but anyhow that uh until then well we we need that a lot of memories >> um take me back to 2012 >> SK acquires at the time >> people questioned that decision what what did they not see what did they miss that you saw about the potential of that memory market. M that's a kind of a bold decision and it's uh I think that uh I made it a really risky bet in a sense of the financially uh because that the companies really suffer from that uh deep debt and also uh has to fighting with it own survival because at the well uh 15 years ago that company is uh under control by the banks uh it's a simply is a chapter 11 and uh uh yes but in Korean sense what we we doing that the banks is uh as a walkout program so uh but they doing that uh more than 10 years you know the uh walk out programs that actually means that nobody really wants that well this portfolio because it's too risky reason why is a well memory business is cyclical and uh that actually suffer from that uncontrollable uh cyclic business uh cycle and uh it requires that uh every year multi-billion dollar the capeex no matter no matter how >> so uh even though you you don't make that the money but uh that that business require that uh the machines and expand and uh adapting new technologies and buying that the new equipment and they have to spend that huge size of the capeex that's why and nobody really wants that uh those kind of danger business >> but you did >> but yes uh I see a little bit different because that well uh if you see that well different angle this memory uh manufacturing is most sophisticate uh the manufacturing business so if you really do it then you can do anything like >> if you crack the technology the process >> yes and also So uh the whole process of the that manufacturing as a uh it actually wow once you make that the little chips but uh chip inside that 380 billion transister in it. >> Yes. >> So that's the business. So how we going to create that those kind of things and it's a small uh yeah small size you know uh the silicon things and we actually put it in the uh huge size of the world the the transistors that's a that's a state of art of the technology so once you doing that and I can manage anything and well I can actually challenge anything also in digital world create lot of memory in a future >> right >> so that's you saw that Yes, I I just bet bet on that and uh well people need that the memory. >> Yeah, >> you talked about managing the process and the idea that you know at that time in 2012 debt was a very big consideration in the market. It was boom and bust cyclical. How much has this you you've been asked about this a lot but the idea of the long-term agreement >> with customers changed that history, >> right? But there is a supply shortage and every customers wants to have to secure that uh the well their own supply and the cover up to their own demand. So they asking us that we need some kind of uh the long-term contract. It's not suggested by us and well they actually require that >> it's them that's making the proposal not SK >> not SK. >> So they are more willing. >> Mhm. Well, we also doing love to do it because that uh it's not cyclical business anymore. If we had at some long-term agreement is well even though it's a downturn and we still maintain that our volumes and uh the certain level of the price. So that actually give us a different uh momentum and that actually created another opportunity for we can change it some our business model even >> what about SK's commitments where are you going to prioritize your investment you know domestically versus here in America not just with the proceeds from from this US share sale but but generally with your balance sheet >> generally uh outside of the highex and the most important matter as AI data center business. So we announced that uh almost at the $1 trillion uh investment in next 10 years and to set up with the uh AI data centers my target is about uh 15 gawatt in Korea but uh I guess at the five gawatt in outside of the Korea. So I'm looking for that this uh whatever area including US side and um um yeah if if there is a uh yeah good chance and the the problem is that the one main thing is a power so yeah power and the the price of the uh the electricity is a well that's a very important matter whether this AI data centers but once we build that that AI data centers and and then well it can actually synergy between that the memory chip and this infrastructure matter. So that's that's what I'm doing in in the future. >> So you're talking about SK group looking more broadly at the AI stack >> not just memory. >> Yes. >> Where else will you focus your attentions? Uh well a company like uh SK Telecom and uh well they are doing that their uh study on the or the uh putting their resources on their own LLM also the applications and the uh physical AI side. >> Yes. Robotics. >> Yes. And the healthcare side. Well, there is a well there's a bunch of uh opportunities and what we've been actually trying to uh pursuing that all those business opportunities in the future. >> An issue here in America and in Korea is talent. >> There is a deficit of skilled workers in the chip industry in America >> and a company like Micron knows that there is a lot of talented people in Korea. >> How are you going to manage that? And again your investment plans for here in the USA. >> Well to secure that uh bring that more tolerant is well well AD is one thing one uh good >> one option. Yeah, options and well ADI gives us that was some some kind of financial play options like well even the stock option then well we could actually uh uh using that the ADR uh directly >> right so uh it actually attracted a lot of people's a lot of talent to the uh to our group >> I see the ADRs is also about public perception of SK >> right that's that's another uh things and the perception is matter so well also Well, we have to spend that a huge money on a while the recruiting a lot of uh good talent and I'm I'm I don't really care about the uh the talent is it could be that the US Japan well yeah it's it's it's everywhere so I try to recruiting that uh much more the talent and that's a kind of important things and I'm asking that our CEOs to well you job has to secure that uh talent in the future is let's just at the doing and uh wow we're going to we're going to create that a lot of jobs and wow I we announced that uh more several trillion dollar investment plan for uh in the future so we need a lot of talent right >> chairman Chay what is the biggest technological advantage that SK has built >> h on the memory side or >> on the memory side Okay. >> Process design >> I guess that well you cannot just saying just one things but uh >> what's the most important thing? >> Well one team so high uh well I really focused on the uh we could bring that to just one company one team. So uh this is a simple business model and memory manufacturing. So well we can actually emphasizing that uh we are just one team and so I think that the one team made that with a really one big historical achievement now so uh that's what I'm saying and that's the most important matter yeah you can say that was some uh what design capacities and well process technology this is right but that's >> or working with TSMC on the base die which the others do not do >> also well we don't actually compete with any customers That's another >> you do not compete with any customers >> and you feel that's important. >> Yes, that's important and that actually gives it a lot of room to actually partnership in the future. So that's how we can actually maintain all those partnerships >> bigger picture. >> Mhm. >> Can you catch up with Samsung? >> Oh that's I don't want to answer those kind of questions. So uh I I don't well my main goal is that the well uh I have to make the uh the our stakeholder happy. >> Yes. >> Well in order to that there's a well certain part is a competition but uh I'm not really wanted to have a well that's my main goal. >> That's difficult though chairman because the shareholders love the profit. >> Mhm. The customers want more capacity, more supply. Those seem to be competing ideals. >> That's what we call that the stakeholders. So, uh it's not only the shareholders. So, shareholder ones that are great returns, right? And the customer wants that cheap product and enough supply. So uh but wow I cannot just satisfy every time every uh stakeholder but wow we had at a certain balance so you know between that uh stakeholder and uh what I'm really see that well uh [groaning] I also have to make that uh my members you uh members of the company well they have to be the happy so happy company make that the happy wizard so that's a simple >> radio speaking to SK group chairman chay A in October when you spoke to Bloomberg Sheran >> you said everyone asked me about AI bubble AI bubble AI bubble and you said at the time >> it's about the cost of AI the cost of AI is too high >> has that changed since October and what is the trajectory of the cost of AI >> yeah well cost of AI as a well you could actually saying that uh uh token for dollar >> token per dollar or dollar per token basis. Yeah. >> Anyhow the uh we have to lower down that uh the the token cost >> but do you see it coming down? >> Yes actually well uh within a three years actually token cost is about 1/5 or the one/10enth. >> So that's a evolutions and uh well there's a lot of uh players just contribute that uh those kind of uh the token token cost is uh way down. So even my memory company make the some solution for the how how we can actually lower down that uh the token cost that's our challenge and well uh our direction is goes there so that's a kind of ecosystem for the AI and well right now is cost is too high but uh somehow that our technology you know down the road probably five year 10 years and we actually uh digested all those problems and it could actually be the well uh everybody's AI and everybody could actually using that they own the agent in the future. So that's that's that's the direction I see. >> Chairman Chay, it's a historic day, >> right? Thank you. >> Literally making history with the the ADRs, but but the focus on America, SK's relationship with America. What what is your relationship like with the Trump administration and how are you working with them to bring more of SKHEX to to this country? Well, not only just SK Heinix and we've been already at the SK already investing at the more than $ 35 billion in uh US side and not many people uh noticed those things but uh we do have bio business we do have uh the battery business and he just uh announced that new fab in the Indiana side and uh uh also SK Telecom made it a lot of investment in the AI uh startups. So we already invested in the uh 35 but uh I see that the well my plan is that the much bigger number so uh >> bigger than 35 >> yeah much much much bigger than uh 35 so uh I'm I'm planning to and uh this is a one milestone and we access that uh the US capital market and uh we have a lot of options and also we had that responsibility to keeping that uh share uh the share price and uh well that's one good thing is that We made it the right investment and uh uh so we kept it at our own value. >> China it's an important market. >> China driver of AI. >> Yeah. China AI as well we have to actually notice that uh the China approach is way different than uh the US side. >> How so? Hm they have a lot of disadvantage on the AI side but anyhow that uh they put it in the lot of other resources the number one is that the uh the human force so >> human capital >> yeah human capital and uh the number of people number of engineers so uh annually well they had that stem uh the student from that uh the major in the stem and uh it's more than the uh the million uh student has come out and every year so they're looking for the jobs and the uh mostly they uh apply to the the uh tech area when you say tech area is probably 50% is AI side so they are AI as a well as a yeah they using that the different strategy so I don't see that the uh any any kind of the visible uh result yet but uh there is some signs and they making that uh some uh the cheaper way and uh they try to create that cheaper token the token cost compatibilities is a yes as that's a kind of important matter and uh uh the US focused on well uh top niche market and well the quality of tokens but uh China is a focus on other ways so I don't know the result but uh well I see that what if they using that different Strategy. </details>
